What To Expect During a Well-Child Visit

Well-child visits begin within a few days after birth and continue through their teen years. Something remains the same through visits over the years. Other things change as your child gets older.

Newborn 

Newborn well visits usually take place on the AAP schedule which begins 3–4 days after birth, one month, and two months. These visits are designed to make sure that your baby is healthy and developing normally. They are designed to catch any potential problems as early as possible to give your child the best possible start in life. Your child will be weighted, length checked, and have their head circumference measured. Their vital signs will be checked and noted. 

Infant Well Visits

At two months of age, in addition to the measuring and vital signs, immunizations will begin at well-child visits in Pasadena, TX. Hearing and vision will also be checked. 

School Age Child

Children of school age will usually have a well-child visit once a year. The visit will include vaccines, a physical exam, checks of vision, hearing, cholesterol, and blood pressure at recommended ages, plus autism screening. An assessment of your child’s emotional health will also be conducted. 

Teens

This is a difficult time for your child and probably you. Mental health and drugs can be a major concern during these years. By this time, your teenager will be quite independent and hopefully have health habits that will last a lifetime.
